Arrival Date: 28th August 2013

Departure Date: 3rd Sept 2013

Deadline for this class is: 19th June 2013

My workshops are appropriate for beginning and more advanced screen printers as well as artists who are looking for a new medium to work in or to create original multiples of their art work.  Classroom teachers as well as art teachers find Screen Printing a valuable tool to enrich almost any aspect of the curriculum

There will be time for more than one product during the week.  Walk around the area to get a feel for the region and perhaps make sketches for possible.

Day 1:  Morning – Start with an explanation and demonstration of the process of Screen Printing and comparison with other printmaking methods.  The history of the medium will be discussed and samples of screen prints will be displayed.

Each student will make a print from a prepared screen to get the feel of pulling a print.

Afternoon – Discussion concerning what each student would like his/her product to be.  i.e. a print for framing, cards to send to friends, T-shirts, repeat patterns on fabric to use for making clothes, tablecloths, name a few.

Day 2:  Create sketches to be translated into stencils for printing.  The paper stencil as well as the drawing fluid/screen filler method will be used.  Both are water soluble.  We will start with a simple paper stencil in one color and proceed to more complicated designs and multiple colors.

Day 3:  Each student will receive individual attention with his/her own design and print.  By the third day students should be familiar with the process and may be able to venture out on their own to create several prints.

Day 4:  Continuation of  previous days’ activities.  Students will have time to go outside to get more ideas from the area or to sketch in the classroom.

Day 5:  Printing of final products.  Class critique of what has been learned,  and of the methods used, prints made, etc.

Question and answer period to share ideas as to how students will use this medium  in the future and ideas on solving problems that arose during printing.  I would hope that a display of final products can be arranged.

There is small fee to  include  a screen and squeegee for each student to take home.

I will supply extra screens and squeegees during the class as well as inks, stencil materials, cleaners, knives for cutting stencils, masking tape, rulers, some paper and fabric for printing, and other necessary materials.

I would ask students to bring with them a smock, apron, or old clothes (this can get messy) as well as markers, pencils, and other drawing materials.
